The Karmic Builders Cooperative was founded on a simple but radical belief: profit should not benefit an isolated individual or group of shareholders. Rather, it should be shared by the workers who do the labour and reinvested into the local community.

In the traditional construction industry, profits flow upward—away from the workers who frame the walls and lay the foundations, away from the communities where those walls are built. Workers are paid as little as possible. Communities are treated as markets to be extracted from, not partners to invest in. The result is a system where those who build our homes often cannot afford to live in them.

We started Karmic Builders to change that.

We believe that a better model is possible. One where workers are paid dignified, comfortable wages, while simultaneously supporting and building the local community. When business is done right, the excess profit is not skimmed off the top by a ceo or founder, but rather is given back to support our neighbors and make a substantial positive change for the city.

As a worker-owned cooperative, every member of our team has an equal voice in how we operate and a direct stake in our success.  We govern ourselves democratically—one worker, one vote—because the wisdom of those doing the work should guide the work.

But our commitment doesn't stop at our own walls.

From the start, we wrote our foundational documents to include a mandatory commitment to community reinvestment. A growing percentage of our profits—eventually reaching 50%—is dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations, charitable trusts, and community initiatives that serve Larimer County. Affordable housing. Food security. Economic development. Healthcare access. Education and job training. Environmental restoration. These are not afterthoughts or charitable add-ons. They are core to our purpose.

We also offer a portion of our services—free of charge—to struggling families, small businesses, and community organizations facing critical repair or maintenance needs they cannot otherwise afford. A safe porch for a family in need. A repaired roof for a small business keeping our main streets alive. Accessibility upgrades for a neighbor in need. These are not write-offs. They are investments in the community that sustains us.

Karmic Builders is not just a painting company. It is a demonstration project—proof that business can be a force for dignity, equity, and community wealth. Every project you bring us helps us build that proof, one job at a time.

We invite you to build with us.

OUR COMMITMENTS

Mandatory Community Reinvestment

Unlike traditional businesses where charitable giving is optional and often the first thing cut in tough times, our commitment to community reinvestment is legally required by our Articles of Incorporation. We are obligated to distribute a growing percentage of our profits—starting at 20% and scaling to 50%—to organizations serving Larimer County. This is not charity. It is structural economic justice built into our corporate DNA.

Quality Craftsmanship

None of this matters if the work isn't excellent. We are skilled professionals who take pride in our craft. Whether we're painting an accent wall, renovating a home, or repairing a porch for a neighbor in need, we bring the same attention to detail, the same commitment to quality, and the same respect for the work. Because building well is part of building justly.

Dignified Wages, Honest Work

We pay wages that reflect the true value of skilled labor. Our compensation structure is designed to provide stability, security, and a path to ownership—not just a paycheck. When you hire Karmic Builders, you are not just paying for materials and labor. You are supporting a model where workers are treated as partners, not expenses.

Free Services for Those in Need

A portion of our capacity is reserved for pro bono services to struggling individuals, small businesses, and community organizations. Critical repairs. Accessibility improvements. Safety upgrades. We believe that no family should live with a leaky roof they cannot afford to fix, and no small business should close because they cannot afford a necessary repair. If you or someone you know has a need and cannot pay, we want to hear from you.
